Karin Ferrari

TechnoAnimadidas

Part of “Spirits, Jinns & Avatars”

2.+3.3., 11.+12.3., 18:00–22:00

  • Installation

Karin Ferrari uses images, forms, and symbols from pop and everyday culture to investigate the present. Her work is inspired by the production of knowledge in the borderland of esoteric utopia and political paranoia. The artist calls such phenomena “trash mysticism” – a kind of DIY spirituality that emerges from mainstream capitalist culture.

In her installation “TechnoAnimadidas”, Karin Ferrari uses branches, which the artist collects in the forest, sands down, paints white, and unites with cable ties, to form the framing for a magical portal. Deconstructed brand logos, neon yellow mesh, and electrical waste shine in the glow of UV light, critically questioning consumerism as a creed of the present. In recent years, the hanging sculpture has been shown in a shopping mall, a museum, and a gym.

In addition to the hanging sculpture, HAU is also showing a video from Ferrari's series “DECODING THE WHOLE TRUTH”. These experimental docufictions claim to uncover hidden messages in images of global media culture. The animation and collage film “DECODING The iPhone Xs: A Techno-Magical Portal” will be shown: Here the artist reads the iPhone Xs not merely as a modern mobile phone, but as a code. Is the iPhone perhaps a portal to God? Or an instrument of the devil?
